A Guide to Hermosa Beach Schools

May 6, 2021 1:49 pm

When moving to a new city, finding the right home is paramount, but another one of the most important factors for families is the schools. Parents want to know; which Hermosa Beach school will our children attend? Are they good schools? How and where will we register? Well, let us help you out.

Hermosa Beach Schools

Hermosa Beach is a small city; only 1.43 square miles, so there are only 3 schools within the Hermosa Beach School District: Hermosa View, Vista School, and Hermosa Valley. Hermosa View School is in the section referred to as East Hermosa, just off Prospect Avenue, and is home to students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade.

Newly rebuilt and renamed, Vista School, (formerly North), is in the Sand Section of Hermosa Beach just West of Valley Park. Due to COVID-19 restrictions and upcoming renovations to the 2 other schools, there will be a few adjustments.

Hermosa Valley School is in the section known as Hermosa Valley, located just off Valley Drive and is home to elementary grades 4-5 and middle school grades 6-8. The two groups share school grounds but operate on different schedules and are separate from one another.

Hermosa Beach is a quaint city in many aspects and here, it is common practice for students to walk to school on a regular basis. Therefore, the city provides numerous crossing guards along established routes, creating a safe “walking school bus” environment.

Registration starts with creating your own account on the district website. You will find the necessary forms to fill out and there is a list of required documentation which is common with all school registration. You will also find a link to Covid-19 information that shares county requirements and additional measures that have been implemented to keep everyone safe.

There is no high school in Hermosa Beach but both Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach and Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach are very close by and available for your choice according to which academic program will best accommodate the student. Registration for Mira Costa is available on the school’s website and registration for Redondo Union is available on the Redondo Beach School District website.

Each website has additional information including academic programs, athletics, bell schedules, and meal programs. While checking them out, you will find that each school is excellent and has much to offer. Both Hermosa Beach schools and Mira Costa rank a 10/10 amongst school ratings.

While we have had a crazy year and things aren’t quite back to normal, our kids have much to look forward to. Hermosa Beach is a wonderful place to be young, go to great schools, and make life-long friends!
