How to Increase Your Home’s Curb Appeal

August 31, 2016 11:41 am

One of the best ways to increase the chances of a quick sell is to improve curb appeal. Curb appeal refers to what a potential buyer sees when they view your house from the street view and begin to make his or her opinion of the property. The first impression is always the greatest, triggering emotions and potential excitement. Further, upon exit, the exterior is what buyers will remember as they drive away. So, you want that lasting impression to stick, too. It is extremely important that you take some time to improve your home’s exterior to set yourself up for selling success. The following are some tips to get you started:

  1. Paint or Update the Façade – Whether you have cheap, ugly colored brick or worn out siding, a new coat of paint or a power wash will do wonders for your home. Buyers have imagined what their perfect home will look like, and it almost never includes dull brick or peeling siding. If your brick is beautiful or your siding is vinyl, give it a good cleaning. Pressure washing, priming brick, and replacing missing siding will greatly improve the façade of your home.
  2. Add Trim to the Landscape – There are various ways to add trim and improve curb appeal. The first place you can add it is to your landscaping. Having clear, distinct lines that separate the grass from the flowerbed gives a crisp look to the yard. Trim along the driveway creates the same elegant look. Pavers, brick, and stone are all some great options to do this.
  3. Add Trim to the Home – Putting trim around your windows and doors will really make them pop. Most buyers want plenty of natural light, and drawing attention to the windows will highlight that aspect of your home. A neutral but contrasting color to the brick or siding will really make them stand out.
  4. Install Lights – If someone is interested in your home, chances are they will drive by a couple times, either before or after they actually do a walkthrough. Adding light gives the home an ambience that buyers want. The lights make the home more inviting and can highlight the most beautiful features of the home and landscape.
  5. Remodel the Entrance – Painting your front door will give the home a newer and inviting look. It should be a color that contrasts with the siding or brick, but not one that clashes. If the house number is old and rusted, either give it a new coat of paint or replace it. There are a lot of different styles you can choose between, with one that will perfectly match the style of your home.
  6. Do Yard Work – Keeping your yard in good shape will really make your home stand out. The grass should always be trimmed and tidy. If you have flowerbeds, plant some lush, colorful flowers. If it’s not exactly flower season, put down a heavy layer of mulch that is deep in color and beautiful to look at.

As you can see, home improvement doesn’t have to be hard or time consuming. With some help from Levine Homes and a few simple upgrades, your home will be ready to sell at the right price, and looking great.
