Owning Beachfront Property In Los Angeles

September 19, 2016 2:51 pm

Having a home next to the water is often thought of as the ultimate in luxury living, not to mention a worthwhile investment that provides a higher quality of life. However, owning beachfront property in Los Angeles is not always for everyone, so before purchasing that home near the Pacific Ocean, here are some points to consider.

The view – Simply put, there’s really nothing to compare with the seemingly endless blue of the Pacific Ocean right near your doorstep. The spectacular views can do wonders to soothe your spirits, freeing you from stress, and that view is certainly something to always look forward to as you come home from a hard day’s work. The sounds of the crashing surf and waves can also do their part to relax you. Just make sure that the property you’ll be buying won’t be in any danger of having its view obstructed in the future!

Health benefits – Living near the ocean means fresher, cleaner air brought on by the ocean breezes, and the cooler air also provides much-needed comfort during warm days and nights. Having a home on the beach gives you a convenient reason to stay fit by walking on the sand for a leisurely stroll, taking a jog or biking along the well-known paved pathway called The Strand that runs parallel to the beach.

Maintenance – While the Pacific Ocean near the South Bay beach cities is within a safe distance from the homes on the shore, more maintenance tends to be involved with oceanfront properties. The weather, erosion, sand, and even salt from ocean spray can eventually affect the exterior and interior spaces of your home, resulting in additional costs for upkeep and repair.

Privacy – If you prefer to live in a secluded place, some of the beachfront properties in Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Redondo Beach might not be suited for you, as they are close to one another, and some are of the high-density type, which means more people around you. Events taking place on the beach like volleyball and surfing contests could also impede on your privacy or quiet time.

Investment – Purchasing a home in one of the beach communities means a considerable investment, as the closer the property is to the water, the higher its price. Generally, real estate in the Beach Cities appreciates through the years, which means if you own a beachfront property in a highly desirable location, its value will go steadily up.
