Reasons to Upgrade to LED Lighting

What’s LED?

Light Emitting Diodes, or LEDs, are now an extremely popular choice when compared to conventional lighting options. Just look at the reasons!

One of the best reasons to upgrade to LEDs is that they are an excellent investment. High-quality LED bulbs recoup their own costs in energy savings in as little as 3 years. According to energy.gov, “it’s a life of more than three years if run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.” Not only do they last longer, but they also cut energy use “by more than 80%”.

Why LED?

Inefficient lights can use up to 80% of their energy on generating heat instead of light. For instance, halogen lights can reach temperatures of 300 degrees, which can significantly increase the temperature of a room. In the summer, this means you will be cranking up the air-conditioning to compensate for the added heat the lights are churning out. By switching to LED you will also reduce your air conditioning costs as well as your lighting costs.

Durable

LEDs are more durable than previously traditional lighting and can be turned off and on frequently without impacting the LED’s lifetime or brightness. In contrast, traditional bulbs may take several seconds to reach full brightness, and frequent on/off switching drastically reduces how long they will last.

They are resistant to shock, vibrations, and external impacts, making them a versatile, safe, and reliable option. They are ideal for locations that are exposed to harsh elements, such as extreme weather and temperatures.

No more flickering fluorescent lights in the office! Energy Makeovers can also improve the lux and beam profile of your commercial lighting, which will mean a better quality of light for your staff and/or customers.

Long Lasting

Unlike conventional bulbs, the diodes don’t “burn out,” but rather emit lower output levels over an exceptionally long period of time so that the light slowly becomes less bright.

In addition to all the reasons you have read about so far, another key reason to upgrade to LED bulbs is that they are fully recyclable.

Older incandescent light bulbs are not recyclable. Also, LEDs reduce the carbon footprint and do not contain mercury and other harmful materials like fluorescent lights (CFLs).

One LED light bulb can save material and production of up to 25 incandescent bulbs! Can you imagine the positive impact this would have on the environment if everyone switched to LEDs?

According to the U.S. government, if LED lighting was completely implemented in the United States over the next 2 decades, it would save “$250 billion in energy costs, reduce electricity consumption for lighting by nearly 50 percent, and avoid 1,800 million metric tons of carbon emissions.”

Affordability

There are various rebate offers to help offset replacement costs and even tax deductions with correct documentation.

Along with the perks of being cost-effective, energy-efficient, and eco-friendly, LED lighting makes a huge difference in the look and feel of a room! Clients are always surprised at how much brighter their space looks once LED lighting is installed. It really is the best choice if you want to showcase a specific area like a kitchen or bathroom.

Because there are different options available – can lights, tubes, and strip lights – LEDs are a great option for both primary and accent lighting. These different options can also be used together to create a no shadow environment.

Options

Among the many LED lights we have installed for clients in Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach, several of them have included custom features, such as adjustable dimming and color changes. Homeowners love having the ability to customize the brightness and mood of a space with the simple push of a button.

With many lighting options, what works in one situation does not work at all in another. For example, an incandescent bulb may light a small room, but it doesn’t fill the bill when it comes to larger spaces. This can result in a mishmash of different types of lighting being used throughout a building. LEDs are different. They offer a lot of flexibility so they can be used in various applications. The beam can be focused or widened, creating either a concentrated spotlight or a more diffuse arc for illuminating large areas.

Features

Another significant feature of this technology is its ability to reproduce virtually any color you want. This means that in addition to bold lighting colors, you also have the option of more subtle variations. For example, you can outfit a workspace with a white light that is cool but bright to bring detailed work into focus. You also can change the color temperature for a warmer glow that will prevent eyestrain. The potential is limitless, so the lighting can be changed to meet your room’s precise requirements.

Companies like LIFX and Philips Hue offer Wi-Fi or Bluetooth compatible LED light bulbs that allow lighting to be color customized, scheduled, and controlled remotely right from the palm of your hand.

Not ready to remodel yet? LED bulbs can fit into standard fittings, such as E27 or E14, thanks to commercially available sockets. This alone is one of the small things that you can do to boost the value of your home by making it greener.

Did you know the LED was invented in 1962? So, if you are not using LEDs, your home or business is actually decades behind. But! It is so easy to join the modern world.

Upgrade to LEDs for all these reasons… AND… because it is the future of lighting!
