The Sand Section Manhattan Beach

September 19, 2016 10:40 am

The city of Manhattan Beach is known as one of the more affluent beach communities in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. As is common in most beach communities, when properties get closer to the water, they increase in price, and the homes in Manhattan Beach that are considered prime real estate are found in the Sand Section, that area within walking distance to the beach.

The Sand Section runs the length of Manhattan Beach, beginning in El Segundo all the way to Hermosa Beach. The area is notable for its neighborhoods with numerous walk-streets adjacent to the beach, in which homes face a pedestrian street and have alley access to a garage in the rear. Lots are generally smaller but homes are more of higher density residential types, and parking space can be limited for residents and visitors. Some lots are spilt, leaving certain homes with walk-street frontage but no parking access off the alley, while some no-traffic walk-streets serve as safe play areas for children.

Enjoy A Stroll or Bike Ride Along The Strand

Perhaps the most well-known portion of the Sand Section in Manhattan Beach is The Strand, which refers to the front row of multimillion dollar homes that face the paved bike path from which it gets its name. This bike path runs parallel to the beach area and is actually part of a larger pathway called the Marvin Braude Bike Trail, which has its starting point in Pacific Palisades to the north and ends in Torrance to the south, for a total of 22 miles, with only 2.25 miles located in Manhattan Beach.

A popular state historic landmark also in the area is the Manhattan Beach Pier with its noteworthy Mediterranean design, considered as one of the oldest standing concrete piers on the West Coast. The pier intersects The Strand from Manhattan Beach Blvd., and can be seen by the residents living along the area.

Homes along The Strand are regarded as among the most expensive in the Manhattan Beach area, with spectacular, unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean. Most of the homes in the Sand Section have either wide or partial ocean views, depending on their location.
